Decorating The Baby Room: Should You Do It Yourself or Hire Someone?
By Sherrie Le Masurier
When it comes to decorating the baby room, my husband and I can’t decide if we should do the work ourselves or hire someone? Do
you have any thoughts that will help us decide?
As I see it, there are three approaches you could take for decorating the baby room – you could do the entire project
yourself, hire someone to do it, or do part of the work yourself and hire out the more complicated tasks.
One of the best ways to decide if you’re up for such a challenge is to consider how extensive your baby room project really is. There’s a big
difference between giving a room a face-lift and giving it a complete makeover. Chances are good you can handle the project if it doesn’t require
special skills like laying down hardwood, doing electrical wiring or building a shelving unit.
That said you need to be able to commit to your decorating the baby room project and see it thru to the end. It’s important to
understand the even though painting the walls may only take a weekend it could take several weeks to overhaul the entire space. You have to give
some thought to how much free you have to devote to this project. A do-it-yourself project like decorating the baby room from scratch requires
both patience and persistence so it’s best to start it sooner than later.
To help you decide whether decorating the baby room is a do it yourself project, one you hire out or get some assistance with
here are 7 questions you should ask yourself:
1. Do you realistically have the spare time you need to complete a decorating the baby room project
yourself?
2. Are you the type of person who starts a project but rarely finishes it? There’s no point starting something
you won’t finish.
3. Do you most enjoy planning redecorating projects or actually doing them? In other words, is physically
removing and hanging wallpaper, painting a room or refinishing furniture really your thing?
4. Do you have any experience doing this type of work?
5. Do you have all the tools you need to complete your decorating the baby room project or will you have to
borrow, rent, or purchase them?
6. Is help available if you come across a task that it better handled by two people?
7. Is there any room in your budget to hire a professional if you find the project is bigger than you thought or
if you make a mistake you’re unable to fix yourself?
If you’ve answered the above questions honestly, and feel you have the confidence to tackle your decorating the baby room project
yourself I say go for it! At the end of the project your child will have a beautiful baby nursery and you can proudly say you did it yourself
(with a little help from your hubby of course).
