How To Select A Baby Nursery Room Theme For A Shared Bedroom
By Sherrie Le Masurier
I’m pregnant with daughter number two and am looking for some baby nursery room theme ideas for a bedroom that will be shared
with her 18 month old sister. Do you have any good decorating ideas that would be appropriate for both girls to grow up in?
First off, you may want to begin looking for baby nursery room theme inspiration in books, magazines, or online.
It’s best to select a color that isn’t too trendy so you won’t have to repaint again for sometime. Also since you’re creating the space for girls
which are two years apart in age you’ll want to make sure that any baby nursery room theme ideas you select aren’t too juvenile for your eldest
daughter.
A good compromise is to create a space that will grow with both girls and can easily be updated as necessary.
Color itself can be the impetus for a baby nursery room theme. If you select one main wall color and then a second accent color which is
picked up in the curtains and bed linens then you’re off to a great start.
Creatively using accessories is a great way to go. If you keep the backdrop of your daughters’ room basic with say solid color walls and
non-age specific patterned bedding and window treatments you can add in accessories to create a baby nursery room theme that will appeal to both
girls.
Accessories could include decor items that feature flowers, butterflies, angels, fairies, hearts etc. The nice thing about the above mentioned
baby nursery room theme accessory items is that while they are feminine in nature they aren’t age specific and therefore would be appropriate for
both girls for quite some time.
Also give some thought to the feeling you want to create with your shared baby nursery room theme. Do you want to create a cosy and warm,
peaceful and relaxing, artistic and creative, or bold and dramatic space?
What about an easy-stick decorative wall border that reinforces your baby nursery room theme but can be easily be updated when your daughters’
desire a change?
The use of one main print or pattern can really set the tone for your entire baby nursery theme. Your main print can come in the form of a
decorative border, bedding or in wall art.
It’s okay to select patterns and prints in different scales such as a large flower print with a smaller coordinating floral pattern.
In addition to your selected baby nursery room theme you’ll want to take your daughters’ storage needs into consideration. Aside from clothing
and books will your girls be storing toys, games and hobby supplies in the room?
If so, give some thought as to how open storage containers can be decorated to fit the theme and be kept up high enough so they are safely out
of harm’s way for the little one.
Such containers can be either covered with wallpaper or fabric or can be purchased in coordinating colors that support your selected baby nursery
room theme and help bring the elements of the room together.
Another great way of bringing a baby nursery room theme together is to incorporate decorative hardware on doors and drawers that enhance the
theme.
Finally, the best way to create a shared baby nursery room theme is to repeat your main color and print in at least three places around the
room. Creating balance is the key, you want to tie everything together but not overdo it.
